Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates these past few months. We'll be back in January with news about the Spring 2010 semester and the new iota class!

Have a blessed Christmas break!

Hollywood and A-D-CHighland!

I am happy to report that the pledge party was a smashing success!! All of the pictures are here, but here's a few good uns:

Disclaimer: It was Hollywood-themed. That may help explain these.

We were graced by Sunset Blvd (whosits and whatsits galore, on the left) and a Palm Tree (Heather)

Some of our bros in AGO dressed up as the cast of Anchorman, complete with a Veronica Corningstone. But it's cool, we don't judge :)

We congratulate the Etas on their awesome party! It was super fun and then they cleaned everything up! Yay!

the pledge party approaches!

As I type, the Etas are downstairs making the house look AMAZING for our pledge party! They have been baking since *last night* (!) and putting decorations up since the afternoon. There is a red carpet through our door, stars all over the living room, and a screen set up in the back for scene it (it's a board/tv game) and/or a movie. Yay!

Speaking of last night - if you get the Trojans Alert on your email or phone, then you know there was a shooting an subsequent police activity in the USC area last night. There was a police perimeter set up, and our house was about a block outside of it (and then more as the perimeter shrunk). It was kind of scary but God kept us and all of our sisters safe. Praise Him! We continue to pray for our area, and we try to help out by volunteering at places like Adventures Ahead. Our principal ministry, besides building each other up, is to the other sorority houses at USC. They need God's love so much and we are blessed to be able to serve them however possible! But we can also have a positive impact on our community. God is so powerful!

And lastly - check out the 'Cornify' button on the ribbon on the right. A friend showed me that today and since I'm the webmaster, well, I get to put it there! Enjoy :)

dinner with the bro's

Last Monday, we had dinner with Alpha Gamma Omega, our brother fraternity! We chowed down on some delicious thanksgiving-esque food - turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, salad, and even pie! We were entertained by both house's pledges (pictures on picasa - see link on right) and had a devotional time led by our Devotional Chair and their Chaplain, about pride.

And then all chaos broke loose as our social vp's announced that our houses were embarking on an epic game of Assassins!! Everyone is assigned a person to 'kill' (you kill them by grabbing their elbow and saying "you're toast"), and when you kill your person, you acquire their target. Of course, times like Tuesday Night Worship, church, sleeping, etc are off-limits. But make no mistake - we are cutthroat. Some members have perished (myself included.... *sigh*) but we hope to regain the title as we did last year when katie/'fancypants' brought home the gold!

We are blessed to have a good and supportive relationship with our brother fraternity. Recently, they have been under criticism for their stance on homosexuality, as well as the targets of vandalism on their porch and house. So please keep them in your prayers as well, that God will reassure them of why they're on this campus, and that they will remember to "stand firm in the faith; be men of courage" (1 Cor. 16:13)

Other than that, songfest practice is going well! If you'd like to come (it's April 17th) please send us an email *now* (or at least before Monday). Contact adx@usc.edu, and we'll direct you to the right person. Tickets are $15. God Bless!

Double philanthropy weekend!

ADX sisters had a chance to participate in two philanthropy events this weekend! Four drove to San Luis Obispo to participate in our Mu chapter's Dodgeball Tournament, which raises money for Lifewater International. Although the day was overcast, and although we came in dead last, we had an awesome time! We got to talk to our recently-founded Mu chapter - they're like us only a few years ago! Like several Alpha Delta Chi chapters, they are not recognized by their school administration because they are a Christian sorority. This means they can't put up any posters on campus, or advertise their events. So please keep them in your prayers - that they won't be discouraged by this, and that God uses them to bless the CalPoly campus with or without the school's recognition.

If you're wondering, we are recognized through USC's Office of Religious Life - which is a great blessing for us. At our Pi chapter (CU Boulder), and ADX sister won "Miss Greek" last year, and our Sigma chapter (Georgia Tech) won an award for philanthropy. God is using ADX to impact our campuses, and though it's easier to do with recognition and a welcoming administration, God can do things we think are impossible!

The Ladychi's who stayed in Los Angeles danced the night away at Dance Marathon (see earlier post). Pictures coming soon!

Broomball with our brothers

On Friday, we played broomball with our brothers at the Alpha chapter of Apha Gamma Omega (at UCLA). We ate some cookies and played our darnedest! It was encouraging to know that God's love is being spread to other students in LA through their house. We're also having an exchange with our own Alpha chapter (also at UCLA) later this semester. But don't worry, we're not going all soft - we went back to being suspicious of anything UCLA-related on Saturday :)

late night pancakes for dance marathon!

Dance Marathon is a philanthropy at USC that raises money for the Los Angeles Children's Hospital. ADX is forming a team for the second time this year - and we're so excited! To raise money for our team, we had a pancake breakfast at Alpha Gamma Omega (our brother fraternity) last Wednesday. At $5 per person for unlimited deliciousness, we raised $486.51! (yeah I don't really understand how that was not a multiple of $5 but whatever, we'll take it) And the best part, we had an awesome time doing it!

Here, Danielle enjoys here waffles...

Amy (blue shirt) prepares the goodies in the kitchen...

God has blessed us with awesome opportunities to get involved on our campus, and we are blessed to have support (like all the people who came for waffles!). Songfest practice continues as well. If you would like to donate to our Dance Marathon team, please email adx@usc.edu

a weekend away

This post is a little late... but a few weeks ago, the sisters of Alpha Delta Chi went to Newport Beach for the weekend, for our Devotional Retreat. We were fabulously hosted by Christine's family there, and had a chance to get away from school and focus on God! We were led by our Devotional Chair, Jenna, and had a great time!

Jenna (foreground) is our fearless leader, as Ashlee (with the guitar) leads worship. And whities Lindy and Danielle stay in the shade so they don't get sunburned

And I'm not entirely sure what's going on in this one, but Janeen's having a lot of fun I think (maybe Jennie under the blanket?)

And just a reminder - you can check out tons more pictures on our Picasa account by following the link on the top right (under the "Links" section)

an ADX Murder Mystery!

Last weekend, the sisters of ADX came together to solve a MURDER! And bond, eat delicious food, and have a few of them dress up. The event was put together by the lovely Theresa, for the big sis-little sis bonding event.

Here is Theresa (left) reading the script as (l to r) Loni, Noelle, and Diana play their parts...

The Family (yes that's their name) think very hard about the evidence while enjoying dessert. clockwise from bottom right: Kari, Nicole, whosits and whatsits galore (her mom calls her Megan), and Heather:

Welcome the Etas!

On Monday, we welcomed our ETA pledge class! Here they are looking gorgeous

We are currently (as in, once I post this I'm going downstairs) practicing for SONGFEST 2009! This is an awesome opportunity for us to partner with Theta Xi fraternity and compete in a musical revue-type show to raise money for Troy Camp. We'll give you more updates later.

God Bless!

Spring Rush

Well, the sisters of ADX have been in the throes of rush this week! Theme: "The World is Not Enough"

Monday, we had an informational barbecue. On Tuesday, we ate pinkberry (delicious frozen yogurt for those of you not familiar). Wednesday we had a bible study on our rush verse 1 Timothy 6:7 ("For we brought nothing into this world and we can take nothing out of it"). Last night (Thursday), we had our own spy game around the USC campus. Tonight the active body is meeting to discuss rush as well as give out bids for our Eta pledge class! Please pray for guidance as we choose this pledge class. We are so thankful for all the women that God has sent our way! He does it every rush, so we probably shouldn't be surprised... but we are still thankful!

Here's a picture of the actives in their "Pretty in Pink" shirts, which raise money for Susan G. Komen foundation. If you want one, you can check them out here. The design is actually different, but I can't find the correct one... I'll post the correct ones when I find them. For now, you can see how good we look!

a new semester!

Today's the first day of USC's Spring 2009 Semester! Our spring rush begins in one week, where we will be getting members for our ETA pledge class!

God has blessed us with incredible sisters - we went from 6 Alphas to now over 40 members! The bigger size has brought challenges, but none that God can't guide us through to make us stronger and more effectual on our campus.

Soon, we'll update the Google calendar with our events for this semester, and we'll be posting more pictures. But here's an oldie (but a goodie!): our Beta Bombshells class (sans 'Stan') on their way to AGO (our brother frat) Mocktails party before winter break. Enjoy!
